The Social Justice and Peace Committee mobilizes parishioners to understand and act on Catholic Social Teaching regarding pressing issues at the local, national, and international levels. Following the call of Jesus to love all people as our sisters and brothers, especially those who are poor, oppressed, or in special need, the committee’s focus is social action to change social policies for a more just and peaceful world.

The Care of Creation Ministry is currently serving as a sub-committee. Inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical “On Care of Our Common Home” and his apostolic exhortation: “To All People of Good Will on the Climate Crisis”, the St. Mary Magdalene Care of Creation Ministry Sub-Committee has as its purpose to be a catalyst for the parish to learn, pray, discern, advocate, and coordinate projects in which we will act together to care for all of God’s creatures and our earthly home, living our faith personally and communally as good and faithful stewards of all of God’s creation.
Letter writing is an opportunity to let our elected officials know what we stand for. The letters, for parishioners to read and consider signing, are responses to issues in light of Catholic Social Teaching.

Please consider signing a petition or sending a letter to Pope Francis in support of the canonization of six African Americans on the path to sainthood asking him to name Pierre Toussaint, Mother Mary Lange, Henriette DeLille, Augustus Tolton, Julie Greeley, and Sr. Thea Bowman as Catholic saints.
