The practice of the peace candle at St. James began at the beginning of Lent, 2003 when the whole world was responding with prayer and action to the possibility of the entry of the United States into war in Iraq.
The St. James Peace Candle continues to burn as a sign of the commitment and prayer of St. James for peace. Peace for ourselves, our family, our communities, and especially for a cessation of military action and the horror that it causes everywhere in the world.
The Peace Candle conveys our hope and prayer for peace.
We pray for an end to all wars and the safe return of all service men and women. We pray for all who are threatened by violence in our neighborhoods, our nation, and the world.
